After several close attempts, Canada’s Willibomb has finally secured his place in the Polytopia World Championship Face-Offs, where he will represent the Hoodrick tribe. Willibomb has reached the final stages of tribe qualification several times, but this time he was able to make it all the way, winning the Hoodrick Final 2–1 and claiming one of the twelve spots in the Face-Offs. Despite the victory, Willibomb didn’t have particularly high expectations going into the Hoodrick qualifier.
“Feels good. I didn’t have high hopes for winning Hoodrick because Hood mirrors are probably the most rng dependant out of all the tribes. I was very surprised to have been able to win.”
The deciding third game of the final proved to be the toughest moment of his run.
“During Game 3 in the finals against Dux. If he didn’t mess up and allowed me to get the port village in the NE, I might’ve lost. It would largely depend on whether he could spare enough money for enough bombers in time to kill a giant on that village when it gets there, although it would also depend on other factors like can I get a knight after taking the SW city from him to threaten him there. It’s terribly hard to say what would’ve happened without doing like 10 hours of analysis. Very lucky that I was able to catch his mistake.”
For Willibomb, Hoodrick is also a particularly good match for his analytical style of play.
“Because it’s the tribe that requires the most amount of decision making. Do I chop this tree, what turn can I get markets, where are the markets, can I afford an archer, etc. I consider calculations to be one of my main strengths so Hoodrick is perfect for me.”
